1. What kind of books are we looking for on this site?
All kinds of books are welcome. Classics, bestsellers, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc.

2. What kind of book review is expected?
Whatever you are comfortable with, just make sure it is for general public consumption, i.e., non-offending. Reading existing reviews will give you a good idea.

3. How do I navigate through the various areas of the site?
On the left-hand side of every screen is a vertical, expandable menu of pages. If your
browser does not support Java you will not even see this menu, but there is a link in that location to take you to a separate menu page.

4. How long will the titles stay available in the database?
Indefinitely.

5. Is spell-check available on the page where the review is entered?
No, I know of no way to do that. It is strongly suggested that you write a
review offline using your favorite word processing program, then copy-and-paste into the review textbox on the site page.

6. Must my browser have cookies and JavaScript enabled?
Yes, for the site to operate properly. I simply do not know how else to perform certain required actions. For more information on cookies, [Click Here].

7. I can't access the Members Menu; what is it, anyway?
The Members Menu contains activities like Enter a Title into the database, Edit a Title, Read Reviews, Display Members' Names, and Use Plan-To-Read facility. You must be a logged-in member to access this menu.

8. I would like to comment on a member's review; how do I do that?
Use the Discussion Board. But remember, be polite ... no flaming or otherwise offensive
remarks.

9. I would like to send an email to another member; how do I get their address?
Members' email addresses are not generally disclosed by site
administration, for personal privacy reasons. Use the Discussion Board to do this. Note that the originator of a Discussion Board entry may elect to include his/her email
address ... it's a personal decision.

10. How do I stop receiving the periodic site updates in my email?
Send an email to admin at ReadersOpinions d o t c o m
requesting such. Same for removal of member's name from the site (with clear statement of intent to no longer be a member). Note: if you are NOT receiving the bi-weekly email of recent
site title entries, please send a note to the site admin ... someone else may be receiving these updates!

11. Why didn't the book jacket appear right after I entered the title into the database?
Obtaining the book jacket and entering it into the database is a manual
process (which is made somewhat more efficient when the ISBN is entered into the entry form). Generally I can get this done within a few hours of the title entry if I am available that day.

12. How do I print a list of books from the database?
You can print on your local printer in two ways: 1) a list of your own entries in the database, and 2) a list of your Plan-To-Read titles. In each case, there is a "Printable list" link at the top of the page, which, when clicked, will display a listing on a clean white background .. you will then utilize the print function in the command bar of your browser, after which you will close the pop-up window containing the printable list. It was considered impractical and of little value to print a list of *all* entries in the database.

13. I've logged in, but I keep getting this "You are shown as not logged in" message .. ??
This happens when you log in without having cookies enabled in your browser. You are
disallowed the use of member functions because the site must be able to read the cookie on your computer to verify who you are. NOTE: this was not entirely true until very recently (Oct. '00) ... but some records got put into the database without an accompanying email address (owner of the record) and I had to remedy that by tightening up on the cookie rule.

14. Certain page-to-page navigation buttons don't seem to work .. ??
This is probably because your browser is not supporting JavaScript ("scripting") .. if you can, and if you don't have any reason not to, then change your browser settings. There are just certain actions for which I am not aware of an alternative to JavaScript.

15. When I try to log-in I receive an error message saying there is no member
in the database with that email address, but I did register!?
In a number of cases, invalid email addresses have been entered by the new member, and I receive a "mail
not deliverable" error message when I try to validate the address. At that point I delete the
registration information, because either the entry was deliberate (I choose to require a valid email address be entered) or because the member will be unable to log-in anyway by using the correct email address. Re-registration (with the correct and valid email address) is the only solution to this problem.
